Kaduna curfew: Lawlessness not ingredient of peaceful protest – Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani has backed the curfew imposed by the state government amid violent protests.

The pro-democracy activist maintained that violence is not an ingredient of peaceful protest.

Daily Sun reports that the Governor Uba Sani-led Kaduna State Security Council imposed a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan cities following a hijack of the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protest by hoodlums who attacked and looted shops on Monday.

In a statement, the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan said there was sufficient evidence to clearly indicate that the ongoing protest had been hijacked by criminal elements who have resorted to looting of shops and destruction of private and public property.

“Citizens are advised to remain indoors while security forces continue to work to maintain safety and security. Monitoring will be sustained for review of the curfew as required,” Aruwan added.

Reacting via X, Sani lauded the state government’s move.

He said, “The curfew and the measures taken by the Kaduna State Government is in the best interest of peace and the restoration of law and order.

“Lawlessness is not an ingredient of peaceful protest.”
