Journalists urged to embrace innovation for sustained professional relevance

By Chukwuma Umeorah

In a rapidly evolving media landscape, the CEO of Marketing Edge, John Ajayi, has compelled journalists and media practitioners to harness the ability of fresh innovative ideas as a cornerstone of their profession in order to remain relevant.

Ajayi made the call at a media parley in Lagos on Sunday at the unveiling of its new anniversary logo in commemoration of its 20 years of operations in the competitive Nigerian media market.

Addressing newsmen at the parley, Ajayi underscored the critical need for journalists to adapt to the changing times while emphasising that traditional journalism methods alone were no longer sufficient to meet the demands of the digital era and introduction and acceptance of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

“There are huge economic opportunities for everyone including professionals and learning to innovate, embracing new ideas and having multiple competence in different areas is something that would benefit you in corporate and private practice and would help widen your potentials to keep you relevant in the ever-evolving media space,” he said.

He further advised journalists not to jettison personal growth in the pursuit of their career and to harness opportunities available to them.

Reeling out plans for the anniversary celebration, Ajayi announced that the event has been specifically designed to recognise outstanding achievement across the nation’s integrated marketing communications spectrum. The Stakeholders Summit will be held on September 15, 2023.

while the EDGE Awards ceremony will be held on the 16th at The Podium Event Centre in Lagos.

The Summit promises a virtual gathering of industry titans from around the globe, with the CEO of Kantar Insight Division, South Africa, Ivan Moroke at the helm alongside other influential thought leaders who will steer discussions on navigating the challenging opportunities in today’s disrupted world under the theme, “The Sustainable Growth of Marketers.”
