The Senate has directed the Inspector General of Police to immediately launch a full-scale investigation into attacks in Plateau to ensure that those responsible for the wanton killing of innocent Nigrrians are brought to justice.
The lawmakers who gave the directive during plenary after adopting a motion moved by Diket Plang on the Palm Sunday killing in Angwan Rukuba, Jos, Plateau State, also observed a minute of silence in honour of those killed in the crisis, describing the development as deeply troubling.

The senators also called for a more robust and sustained presence of security forces in the troubled areas, specifically urging the Chief of Defence Staff and other service chiefs to establish a permanent joint operational base in the affected local government areas.
Such a deployment, they noted, is necessary “due to its volatile nature and to keep these criminal elements at bay.” The Senate further tasked the Nigerian military with intensifying intelligence-driven operations across the country to track down and dismantle criminal hideouts.

It called on the armed forces “to deploy intelligence and area surveillance by fishing out the hideouts of these criminal elements across the country and dismantling them completely.”
In addition, lawmakers pressed the Federal Government to urgently boost manpower in the security sector by accelerating recruitment into the police and the armed forces.
They urged relevant authorities “to expedite action in recruiting more personnel into the Nigerian police and the Nigerian military,” warning that the current security challenges require strengthened capacity.
As part of efforts to demonstrate solidarity, the Senate also resolved to send a high-level delegation to Plateau State. The team, to be led by the President of the Senate, is expected to sympathise with victims and engage stakeholders in the affected areas.
The delegation, according to the resolution, is to condole with the Plateau people and also the victims.
Addressing the humanitarian dimension of the crisis, the Senate called on the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to urgently intervene through its relevant agencies. It urged the ministry to direct its agencies towards the supply of relief materials to affected victims, noting the urgent needs of displaced persons.
