As cyber threats continue to challenge the integrity of financial systems across Africa, few professionals have made as significant an impact as Tope Oladele Jooda.

A highly regarded cybersecurity and governance expert, Mr. Jooda is being recognized for his instrumental role in fortifying Nigeria’s financial infrastructure through robust compliance frameworks, digital risk management strategies, and transformative capacity-building efforts.

Serving as Senior Consultant at Phillips Consulting Limited, Mr. Jooda led several critical engagements across top-tier financial institutions, helping to institutionalize global best practices in cybersecurity, operational resilience, and risk governance. His work has contributed to Nigeria’s growing reputation for digital trust, financial system security, and adherence to international regulatory standards.

Driving Institutional Resilience Across the Sector

Mr. Jooda’s record of achievement spans industry giants such as United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Bank of Industry (BOI), Ecobank Nigeria, Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria, Keystone Bank, and Access Bank Plc.

At UBA, he was central to achieving compliance with information security standards across several subsidiaries. At BOI, he oversaw the implementation of integrated risk management structures that continue to serve as a benchmark for other financial institutions.

In 2020, Jooda successfully led recertification efforts for ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System) and ISO 22301 (Business Continuity Management System) at one of Nigeria’s foremost banks, ensuring zero non-conformities and full regulatory alignment. His engagements consistently delivered measurable improvements, reducing compliance gaps, elevating audit readiness, and strengthening institutions’ abilities to withstand operational disruptions.

“We engaged Tope to help us meet ISO standards, but what we got was far more,” said a senior cybersecurity executive at a leading Nigerian bank who requested anonymity. “His interventions reshaped our security culture, from compliance staff to C-suite. The maturity model he implemented helped us move from reactive to anticipatory security, and that has made all the difference.”

Building a Skilled Cyber-Aware Workforce

Beyond systems and certifications,  Jooda has led the charge in human capital development, training and mentoring over 1,500 professionals across the banking, telecommunications, energy, and government sectors. These individuals, ranging from compliance officers and IT governance analysts to executives, were empowered with practical, high-impact training in cybersecurity risk management, regulatory compliance, and information security implementation.

His workshops and masterclasses laid the groundwork for a cyber-aware workforce, advancing security culture across industries and reducing the incidence of breaches caused by human error or poor governance.

Many of his trainees have gone on to lead internal compliance initiatives and drive digital transformation projects within their organizations.
