Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has described Jilli Market, which was hit by weekend airstrikes, as a notorious terrorists’ hub.

Zulum, in a statement released by his spokesman, Mal Dauda Iliya, late Sunday, also said the Borno State Government had shut down Jilli Market and another one around the area allegedly being used by terrorists and their logistics suppliers.

The governor warned people against aiding and collaborating with terrorists. He said he was briefed by the military authorities on the Saturday Nigerian Air Force airstrikes on Jilli Market.

“I have been properly briefed on the airstrike carried out by the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai on Jilli market, a border town between Borno and Yobe states. Let me state categorically that the Borno State Government closed Jilli and Gazabure markets five years ago,” the Governor said.

“I am in close consultation with the Government of Yobe State and the military hierarchy on the matter,” he disclosed.

He expressed his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding law-abiding citizens and sustaining synergy with security agencies to restore peace and stability in the state.

Zulum urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that will aid ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the northeast.

Jilli is a remote border community between Gubio Local Government Area of Borno State and Geidam Local Government Area of Yobe State. The area is, however, in Borno State and not in Yobe State.
