James Olaniyan, a seasoned IT professional, is driving innovation by putting people at the heart of technology solutions—a focus that defines his human-centred approach to tech leadership.
In a statement recently, he shared how he began his career and is driving purposeful innovation by applying technical expertise to real human needs.
Starting from hands-on troubleshooting roles in Lagos, he gradually moved into more complex technical environments, always maintaining a focus on empowering the people behind the systems.
“Technology, to me, has always been about enhancing human capabilities—not replacing them,” he said.
Olaniyan said that this ethos has guided his path from Africa to the United States, where he earned a Master’s degree in Computer Science from Purdue University Fort Wayne.
Over the years, he has built a rich portfolio of experience, from configuring secure local area networks (LANs) in warehouse environments to leading large-scale technical deployments across Amazon’s last-mile delivery facilities.
In each role, Olaniyan has prioritised practical, people-focused solutions.
Colleagues often describe him as calm under pressure, relentlessly curious, and highly collaborative—traits that define not just his technical acumen, but his leadership approach.
Whether it’s mentoring new hires or training frontline staff during high-pressure Hypercare operations, Olaniyan’s method is hands-on and rooted in empathy.
“The more complex the challenge, the more important it becomes to connect with the people involved,” he noted in his statement.
He voiced his concern about the vulnerability of small and mid-sized businesses to social engineering attacks and emphasised the need for security awareness at every organisational level.
“The first line of defense isn’t your firewall—it’s your people,” he emphasised.
Olaniyan has backed his commitment with continuous learning, earning certifications in Cybersecurity Management, Risk & Compliance from OneTrust, and ISC2’s Certified in Cybersecurity.
These qualifications reflect his broader interest in governance and risk, but also reinforce his belief in the importance of staying teachable.
“There’s always something new, and if you stop learning, you stop leading,” he said.
As organisations continue to face challenges brought on by rapid digital transformation—ranging from cybersecurity threats to communication gaps between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders—Olaniyan’s human-centred approach offers a practical model for innovation.
He builds systems that are not only technically sound but also scalable, sustainable, and understandable to the very people who rely on them daily.
Olaniyan is a results-driven professional who brings clarity, structure, and purpose to every project he handles.
His consistent track record of delivering impactful solutions across diverse environments reflects his commitment to excellence and his ability to lead with both skill and integrity.
