The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), has highlighted new measures introduced to successfully conduct the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The board, according to its timetable would on Saturday begin the conduct of 2017 UTME in 634 Computer Based Test (CBT) centres for the 1.731, 031 registered candidates.
JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, said yesterday in Abuja that the board strengthened its ICT base against any external cyber attacks and backed it up with vital information.
He said that earlier reforms in the programmes of JAMB resulted in increase in capacity of test centres to 250, with only a few in categories B and C having the seating capacity of over 200 and 100 respectively.
The reforms also led to the creation of 691, 000 registration points instead of the previous less than 1000. This implied that 691, 000 candidates would be registered in 10 minutes.
Regrettably, he said, the reforms consumed the use of scratch cards, which he said, was initially used to defraud candidates.
He added that JAMB widened its vending banks from four to 10, and brought on board interswitch, remitta and NIPOST to assist in vending.
“We have also saved billions of naira through checkmating the excesses of some undesirable elements, leaving them with abundant funds they had made to launch attacks against us, both technically and psychologically,” he said.
