Itesiwaju Imole Losun: 125 elderly persons get N10,000 at ‘Oko Arugbo Outreach’ in Osogbo

 

Relief came the way of 125 elderly residents in Osogbo on Monday as the Special Adviser to Governor Ademola Adeleke on Innovation, Science, Technology, and Digital Economy, Hon. Azeez Badmus, empowered them with N10,000 cash each to ease their hardships.

The yearly programme, tagged _”Oko Arugbo Outreach”, was held at the Better Life Market, Osogbo, and drew beneficiaries from Wards 1, 2, 3, and 8 of Osogbo Local Government Area. Organizers disclosed that subsequent editions will cover other wards.

Speaking at the event, Hon. Badmus said the outreach was conceived to celebrate and support senior citizens who have contributed immensely to society and pledged to sustain the initiative annually under the Itesiwaju Imole Osun agenda, assuring that other wards would be covered in subsequent phases.

Badmus explained that, Itesiwaju Imole Osun was established in 2022 to support elderly citizens, widows, and widowers who “sacrificed so much in raising families and building our communities adding that, the initiative has since rolled out various welfare programmes across Osogbo and beyond.

According to him, the outreach aligns with Governor Adeleke’s commitment to inclusive governance. He stressed that no segment of the population would be left behind in the administration’s development drive, adding that society must never forget the sacrifices of its older generation.

Organizers described the programme as a continuous effort designed to give hope and relief to vulnerable people during difficult economic times. They also urged other public office holders and well-meaning individuals to support humanitarian causes targeting the less privileged.

The event also featured political mobilization for the governor’s second term. Hasimiyu Ajibola, Accord Party Chairman in Ward 3 and host of the programme, was represented by Olusegun Olutimehin, popularly known as Prince.

Addressing participants, the Chairman of Accord Party in Ward 3, where the event took place, Hasimiyu Ajibola, urged the beneficiaries to support the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke. He described Adeleke’s administration as “humanistic” and one that has the interest of all residents at heart.

Ajibola, who was represented at the event by Olusegun Olutimehin, popularly known as Prince, said the outreach was in line with the governor’s _Imole_ agenda of touching lives at the grassroots. He noted that the elderly remain a critical segment of society deserving consistent care and support.

He further appealed to the beneficiaries not to “waste their votes” in the forthcoming election, describing the Accord Party as “the only hopeful party for the hopeless ones.” He urged them to remain steadfast with the party at the polls.

The programme also featured a voter education session for the elderly attendees. Facilitators sensitized them on how and where to cast their votes for the Accord Party during the election, stressing the importance of proper thumb printing to avoid voided ballots.

Also speaking, a leader of the party, Ibrahim Olaboye, commended Hon. Azeez Badmus for organizing the outreach and thanked the elderly for turning out in large numbers. He charged them to come out en masse on election day to vote for Governor Adeleke.

Some of the beneficiaries, visibly elated, expressed gratitude to the organizers. They noted that the N10,000 support would help cushion the effects of the current economic hardship, especially in meeting basic needs like food and medication.
