Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, arrived in Sydney, on Wednesday, as part of a historic four-day visit to hold talks with his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull, a report said.
Netanyahu and Turnbull are expected to discuss different issues, including Palestine.
The two leaders will also sign agreements on technology research and air services, and discuss expanding co-operation in cyber-security and innovation.
“We admire Australia, we embrace Australia and this visit will enable us to bring our countries even closer.
“I’ve been here before and counted the years wanting to come back again.
“I’m very proud to be here as the first Israeli Prime Minister to make an official visit to Australia,” Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu, who is travelling with a business delegation, is the first sitting Israeli prime minister to visit Australia.
“We’re celebrating 100 years of friendship between Australia and Israel.
“I always remember, it was Australian light horse that liberated Beersheba, an old, old city in our history.
“We have been friends extraordinary friends ever since,” he said.
The current trade between the two countries is about 920 million dollars with coal, aluminium and live animals making up the bulk of Australian exports to Israel.
Isreal’s exports to Australia include minerals, pearls and gems. (NAN)
