The United States government has sounded a global security alert for its citizens in across the world following fresh military strikes on Iran. The warning reflects growing fears that the escalating conflict could spill beyond the Middle East.
In an advisory issued Sunday, the United States Department of State urged Americans abroad to heighten their personal security awareness. It cautioned that rapidly changing developments could disrupt travel plans, including sudden airspace closures.
“Following the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide and especially in the Middle East should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the statement read.

US nationals were advised to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive direct updates from embassies. The department also directed citizens to monitor its official security channels for real-time information.
The alert followed coordinated strikes reportedly carried out by US and Israeli forces on key Iranian targets. Regional reports claim the attacks killed Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, alongside senior military officials and commanders of the Revolutionary Guard. Casualty estimates suggest more than 200 people were killed and hundreds injured.
In a dramatic twist, President Donald Trump said Tehran had initiated contact for renewed negotiations. According to him, Iran’s leadership indicated readiness to return to the table after days of bombardment, signalling a possible diplomatic opening amid rising global tension.
