At least one person has been killed and 11 others injured after Iranian missiles and drones struck parts of major airports in the United Arab Emirates late Saturday, authorities have confirmed.

In a statement posted on X on Sunday, Abu Dhabi Airports said four people were injured following an “incident” at Dubai International Airport (DXB). Emergency teams were immediately deployed to the scene and flight operations were suspended as a precaution.

The statement added: “Authorities in Abu Dhabi are responding to an incident resulting from the interception of a drone that targeted Zayed International Airport. The interception led to falling debris, which resulted in one fatality of an Asian national and seven injuries.”

It further urged calm, saying, “The public is urged to avoid circulating rumours and to rely only on official sources. Updates will be provided.”

Officials said the UAE’s air defence systems intercepted dozens of missiles and drones launched by Iran, with most successfully neutralised mid-air.

However, debris from the interceptions reportedly fell in several locations, causing limited damage and casualties, including near airport facilities and residential areas.

Authorities temporarily closed the country’s airspace and halted flights at key hubs, including DXB and Zayed International Airport, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and forcing airlines to cancel or delay services.

The strikes come amid rising tensions in the Middle East, with Iranian forces reportedly retaliating after extensive strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory earlier in the conflict, according to international news agencies.
