France has deployed Rafale fighter jets to the United Arab Emirates as tensions from the Iran conflict continue to ripple across the Gulf.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot confirmed that the aircraft have been mobilised to secure French military installations, particularly around the Al-Dhafra base near Abu Dhabi, following recent drone threats in the region.
The move comes as the crisis sparked by US-Israeli strikes on Iran deepens, with Tehran and it’s retaliation across multiple fronts. Gulf countries have since tightened security around critical infrastructure, diplomatic missions and military facilities.
According to French officials, a drone recently struck near a French facility in the UAE, causing damage but no reported casualties. That incident appears to have prompted Paris to strengthen its defensive posture.

While France’s aircraft carrier, the Charles de Gaulle, remains on deployment in the Atlantic, Paris has made it clear it will protect its assets and personnel in the Middle East.
For many observers, this signals how far the conflict has expanded. What began as targeted strikes is now drawing in global powers seeking to protect their interests, especially in a region that remains central to global energy supply and security.
With tensions still high and no clear diplomatic breakthrough in sight, Gulf states and their allies are bracing for what could be a prolonged period of instability.
