The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has raised the alarm over the assassination attempt on its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, inside the DSS facility.

The alarm followed the alleged physical attack on Nnamdi Kanu by DSS operatives upon his return from court on Friday, October 24, 2025.

In a release signed by its Spokesperson/Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group described the attack as barbaric and a brazen attempt on the life of its leader.

It reads in part: “The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) under the supreme command of our great leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, strongly condemns the shocking and criminal assault on his person by a Department of State Services (DSS) operative upon his return from court on Friday, October 24, 2025. This barbaric attack constitutes nothing short of an assassination attempt against the leader of a peaceful, lawful, and globally recognized self-determination movement.

“We are reliably informed that one of the DSS officers who escorted him to court physically attacked and attempted to strangle him within the confines of the DSS facility. This latest attempt comes amid a series of covert efforts to slowly eliminate our leader through poison-induced organ failure, a sinister strategy that has failed to break his spirit or silence his voice of truth.

“It is now evident that what the Nigerian state could not achieve through unlawful rendition, torture, starvation, and prolonged solitary confinement, they are attempting to accomplish through direct physical violence. This is a clear continuation of the State’s policy of extermination targeted at Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and, by extension, the entire Biafran people.”

In a swift response, the IPOB called for immediate transfer of Kanu from the DSS facility to a neutral and lawful correctional facility, urging the international community to urgently intervene in the matter. “Mazi Nnamdi Kanu must be immediately transferred from the DSS dungeon to a neutral and lawful correctional facility such as Kuje Prison. No accused person should be kept in the custody of his prosecutors. This is anathema to every principle of justice and humanity.”

The group maintained that no amount of intimidation would silence its members.
