From Sylvanus Viashima, Jalingo
Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas has warned opposition political figures in the state to stop using the unfortunate Friday attack that led to the death of several people and destruction of property in Binnari Village, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state, to score cheap political points.
The governor was reacting to a viral video where one of the opposition gubernatorial candidates commiserated with the people over the tragic incident and called into question the effectiveness of the governor’s strategy to tackle insecurity across the state.
In a statement issued in Jalingo on Sunday morning and signed by Hon. Emmanuel Bello, Directorate of Media, Dr Agbu Kefas Re-election Campaign Council, Kefas challenged Senator Emmanuel Bwacha in particular to present the people with his blueprint on how he intends to tackle the menace rather than exploiting a tragedy for political gain.
“The central question remains: What exactly is Bwacha’s plan for securing Taraba State? Governor Kefas’s record cannot be dismissed through political rhetoric alone. Since assuming office, his administration has prioritised security through collaboration with military formations, law enforcement agencies and other stakeholders, alongside investments in operational equipment, logistical support and personnel morale.
“It is important to acknowledge that the recent killings are a painful reminder that significant challenges remain. However, no government anywhere can guarantee absolute security. What matters is the willingness to confront threats, strengthen security institutions and respond decisively to emerging dangers.

“Taraba’s geographical realities also demand a comprehensive strategy. Sharing borders with several Nigerian states and the Republic of Cameroon, the state faces complex security dynamics that require effective intelligence gathering, early-warning systems, community engagement and cross-border cooperation.
“As the campaign progresses, Bwacha must explain how he intends to address these challenges. What measures would he introduce to prevent attacks on vulnerable communities? How would he strengthen intelligence gathering and improve the operational capacity of security agencies? What investments would he make, and how would he measure the effectiveness of his proposed interventions?
“These are the questions Tarabans deserve answers to. Criticising an incumbent is a legitimate part of democratic politics, but criticism without a credible alternative offers little reassurance to citizens concerned about their safety.
“The opposition also has a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the debate. Rather than merely questioning the government’s performance, Bwacha should present a detailed, realistic and actionable security blueprint that allows Tarabans to assess his preparedness for leadership.
“Bwacha should stop playing politics with security and show Tarabans his blueprint. The people deserve more than accusations and political theatrics; they deserve credible plans, accountable leadership, and sustained action to protect their lives and property,” the statement reads.
