From Olanrewaju Lawal, Birnin Kebbi
Kebbi State chapter of Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has charged political parties yet to conduct their congresses in the state as well as those which have concluded their primaries to ensure total compliance with the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) guidelines.
Chairman of IPAC in the state, Mr. Faruku Garba in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi, noted that compliance to the electoral Commission and guidelines would strengthen internal democracy.
Garba said the INEC guidelines and electoral constitutional provisions are in order to strengthen internal democracy.
He stated that prompt, genuine and impartial parties congresses are a litmus taste to genuine and impartial parties primary polls.
According to him, “good leaders are produced through fair congresses and are vehicles parties can use to strengthen internal democracy and lead to success during polls warning that shady congresses attract litigation that could jeopardise parties success at the polls and bring rancour in democracy”.
Garba urged all political parties in Kebbi State and Nigeria to ensure their internal activities are in line with INEC laws and guidelines.
“ We watch closely as events unfold in political parties’ congresses even as we admonish them to ensure seamless congresses to avoid political rancour or parties may risk being delisted for refusing to follow the laid down rules provided in the constitution and INEC.”
He commended the Kebbi State Government under the leadership of comrade Nasir Idris for providing a level playing ground for all political parties to participate in all elections in the state.
