The Internet Society Nigeria Chapter has inaugurated its new executive council on led by Engr. Kunle Olorundare, who was elected President in the last election to serve a three-year term.

Other members inaugurated into the executive council during the group’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) yesterday include:
Adebunmi Adeola Akinbo, Vice President
Nkoro Essang, General Secretary
Abdulrahman Barkindo Alkali, Program Secretary Saheed Ajibade Adedokun, Financial Secretary Priscillia Igba, Treasurer Bilyaminu Umar, Public Relations Officer.

Addressing the audience at the inauguration ceremony, Olorundare, who served as Vice President and hitherto Acting President following the stepping down of Mr. Caleb Ogundele as President to join the Board of Trustees of ISOC Global, expressed his appreciation for the confidence reposed in him by members of the Internet Society Nigeria Chapter.

“On behalf of the newly inaugurated executive council, I wish to express our sincere appreciation for the confidence you have placed in us by overwhelmingly voting for us. We are honored and humbled to be entrusted with this responsibility, and we do not take it lightly,” Engr. Kunle said.

He acknowledged that the confidence comes with a great deal of responsibility, but pledged to work hard to live up to the expectations of the Society and lead the chapter to new heights. “I am committed to working with the new set of executive council members to co-create a more inclusive and participatory organization, and to advance the mission of the Internet Society in Nigeria,” he assured.

He called on all members to remain involved in the chapter, adding that the new executive council is committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued. He further stated that the overarching strategy for the new executive council is inclusive governance, and based on this, he unveiled a five-point agenda, which includes:

Establishing advisory boards on ISOC flagship programs
Reenergizing the working group (WG) model, which is already functional, by injecting new blood where necessary
Making proactive contributions to policies, guidelines, and stakeholder forums in the Internet ecosystem
Developing strategies for partnering with relevant indigenous stakeholders to implement Internet-based programs and events Collaborating strategically with key foreign partners in the Internet ecosystem.

“This is the time for us to come together as a community and work for the upliftment of the Internet Society Nigeria Chapter. I am confident that, working together, we can make giant strides,” Olorundare said.
