As part of efforts to enhance international transportation, Lagos, State government has concluded plans to establish a transport hub at Mile 2 area of Lagos, where commuters can board a train or commercial bus to Okokomaiko after disembarking from a CMS-Mile 2 Jetty.
The Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Transportation, Mr. Shola Giwa who dropped this hint recently in Lagos said that the Mile 2 hub can be likened to the transportation hub at Marina where commuters have options of either entering a train, ferry or commercial buses depending on their daily routines.
He stated further work is ongoing on the Mile-Okokomaiko (Green line) railway corridor so as to enhance mass movement of people and by extension reduce the number of vehicles on the roads
According to Giwa, statistics made available shows that there are 400 vehicles per kilometre in Lagos state adding with the adoption and application of intermodalism the number of vehicles on the roads will be drastically reduced.
Giwa noted that Lagosians lose an average of four hours daily due to traffic congestion, resulting in an estimated N4trillion in annual economic losses.
He attributed much of this gridlock to unregulated parking, disorderly loading and unloading activities along major logistics routes.
According to Giwa, out of the 20 Local government areas in the state 15 are covered with water adding that the state government has acquired about 17 Jetties for commercial purposes on the waterways.
Giwa explained that to enhance logistics coordination, ease traffic congestion, and improve road safety, the Lagos State government has introduced an Electronic Call-Up (E-Call-Up) system, with effect from Monday, June 16, 2025, for all tankers and articulated vehicles operating along the Lekk-Epe corridor.
He explained that all tanker and articulated vehicte drivers entering Lagos to load or offload goods must now register and schedule their movement through the electronic-call-up platform saying, the digital system is designed to coordinate truck movements, reduce indiscrimnate roadside parking and minimize disruptions to other road users.
According to a Lagos State Ministry of Transportation official, “Under the new system, tanker operators will be required to upload their Authority to Load (ATL) and pre-book assigned parking slots before arriving in Lagos”.
He said the e-cal-up platform will aiso collect vital travel and cargo information, enabling efficient allocation of designated parking spaces noting that the facilities will be equipped with basic amenities such as rest-rooms, kitchens, and electricity to ensure the comfort and safety of drivers.
Giwa further disclosed that the government has approved seven dedicated truck parks along the Lekk-Epe axis to support the system’s impiementation.
He emphasized that the policy is the outcome of over two years of extensive stakeholder engagement and forms a critical part of the State’s broader transportation reform agenda aimed at transforming Lagos into a smart, resilient, and Iivable city.
