Intermodal Transport: Imo, Osun Vow To Emulate Lagos Template

As part of efforts to guarantee seamless integration of transport modes and boost economic growth, Imo and Osun State governments have promised to adopt template of Lagos in building transport infrastructure and traffic regulation.

The Commissioners of Transportat in the two states Dr. Chika Abazu Benson and Oyedele Olusesan who separately made this revealations recently in Lagos during the South West Zonal Conference of Chartered Institute of Transport of Nigeria, CIOTA, said that Lagos state has set a benchmark in international transport for other states to follow.

Imo state Commissioner for Transportation Dr. Chika Abazu Benson in his goodwill message commended Lagos state for the accomplished Bus Rapid Transport, BRT, and electric light railway line project initiatives.

He described the South West states especially Lagos as pace setters in building transport infrastructure and that Imo state is understudying the Lagos template so as to replicate same in Imo and the South East.

The Commissioner explained further that transportation is one of the most noble Professions but that it has been characterised by chaos due to lack of standard and proper regulation.

He reiterated that “If you arrive any country in the world for the first time, check the level of transport and it will give you and idea about the level of development in that country”.

According to him, developing transport infrastructure is capital intensive and requires comprehensive policy, destirity and careful planning.

Osun State Commissioner of Transportation,  Oyedele Olusesan said that the state government has achieved a lot in terms of development of road transport infrastructure.

He commended Lagos state government for its pioneering efforts in developing transport infrastructure adding that Osun state government is also learning from the Lagos experience.

The Lagos state Commissioner for Transport, represented by Engr. Aderomu acknowledged the encomiums poured on the state saying, currently LAMATA is test running the Oyingbo-Agbado train shuttle with a view to commence operations as soon as it is certified by the technical partners; China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and Nigerian Railway Corporation.

He restated that the goal of logistics is to ensure orderliness and build transport network that supports  economy and environment.
