The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has appeal to Nigerians of different faith, to intensify their prayers for the ailing President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently recuperating in London after a successful surgery for an undisclosed ailment.

Buhari was flown to London on January 19 for his annual vacation, but later visited hospital for medical check-up.

The umbrella body of Christians in Nigeria rejected the claim that the prolonged absence of President Buhari has created a power vacuum in the Presidency, making reference to   the transfer of power to the vice president, unlike what happened during the Presidency of the late Umaru Yar’ Addua.

CAN President, Rev. Dr. Samson Olasupo Ayodele, in a statement, on Thirsday, urged Nigerians to also include in their prayers, the Acting President, on whose shoulder the country is rested,  for God to fill him with divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding as he discharge his constitutional responsibilities.

The statement which was signed by his Special Assistant, Media and Communications, Pastor Adebayo Oladeji, urged all Nigerians, especially Christians, not to cease praying for the ailing President, even as he takes more rest as advised by his doctors

He said, “It is needless reminding you that as Christians, our responsibilities include but not limited to making supplications, prayers, and intercessions, and giving thanks on behalf of our leaders and others in  the position of authority.

Meanwhile, the CAN President had also called on the security agencies to rise to the security challenges in the Southern Kaduna, by flushing out the hoodlums that are still killing innocent people despite the presence of policemen and soldiers in the area.

“We demand that security agencies put a final stop to the killings in Southern Kaduna. We are worried that in spite of their presence in the area, attacks still continues as was recorded in Atakar and Kaninkon villages of Kaura and Jema’a local government areas in the state few days ago,” he said.

CAN thus solicited the support and collective effort of all to flush out the criminals from their hideouts in order to restore a permanent peace to the Southern Kaduna communities once and for all.
