…Storms Katsina, says Nigeria will not bow to terror, treachery

• Urges soldiers to be resolute

President Bola Tinubu has urged the Nigerian military to intensify efforts at ending terrorism and banditry, describing the current security challenges as a defining moment in Nigeria’s history.

According to a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu who made a rare and symbolic surprise visit to the frontline troops engaged in Operation Fansan Yamma in Katsina State on Friday, May 2, 2025 declared: “The fight you are waging here in Katsina and across the country is not just a battle for territory; it is a battle for the soul of Nigeria.”

In a stern warning to terrorists and their collaborators, the president declared:

“To those who seek to destabilise our nation – be they domestic collaborators or foreign agents – hear this: Nigeria will not bow. Not to fear. Not to terror. Not to treachery.”

He called on the soldiers to be resolute and declared: “Let the enemies of Nigeria know-their time is up.”

Tinubu inspired the troops with a message of hope and determination: “This war will not be won by weapons alone but by your will to stand, resist, fight, and triumph. With your valour and discipline, peace shall prevail. Stand tall. Be proud. Nigeria depends on you, and I am with you today, tomorrow, and always.”

He rallied the soldiers with energetic calls, asking: “Are you ready? Are you committed to ending this insecurity once and for all? Let your resolve echo through every valley and forest. Let the enemies of Nigeria know-their time is up.”

The president praised the military’s courage and sacrifice, saying, “you are the shield of Nigeria, the brave sons and daughters who stand between our people and the forces of terror.

Every inch of ground you hold, every terrorist you neutralise, and every community you secure is a victory for justice, freedom, and the future of our children. Your resilience in the face of danger inspires the entire nation.”

Acknowledging the hardships soldiers endure, Tinubu assured them of the Federal Government’s unwavering support:

“Your welfare is my top priority. We are committed to ensuring your families are safe, your allowances are paid promptly, your healthcare is guaranteed, and your dignity upheld. Housing programmes, family support systems, insurance coverage, and improved remuneration are being implemented without delay.”

He also stressed the administration’s efforts to equip the military with advanced technology and superior intelligence, stating: “We are taking bold steps to equip you with advanced equipment, superior intelligence, and robust logistical support-not only to defend this nation but to dominate and defeat every adversary.”

The president’s visit, which included inauguration of a 24km-dual carriageway and an agricultural mechanised centre in Katsina, was widely seen as a morale booster for troops stationed in one of Nigeria’s most volatile regions.
