The Borno State Police Command has urged residents to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information about the security situation in the state.

Borno State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Nahum Daso made the call in a public advisory issued in an X post on Friday.

Daso said the public advisory had become necessary in view of recent security incidents in the state.

On Thursday, the command confirmed an attack on Wuturo village, a nomadic settlement in Konduga Local Government Area of the state, where a herder was killed and 1,400 sheep were rustled by Boko Haram terrorists.

Meanwhile, SunOnline learnt that troops repelled an attack from Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters on a military base in Banki, Bama LGA of the state early Friday.

Amid the fluid security situation, Daso urged the public not to panic.

He said, “Following recent security incidents in some parts of Borno State, we understand the fears and tensions among residents.

“Borno State Police Command in collaboration with relevant security agencies are on alert and taking necessary measures.

“We urge the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security formation.”
