Nigerians, particularly the affected families, have decried the persistent attacks by bandits in parts of Benue and Zamfara states, as well as Ekpoma in Edo State, calling on the Federal Government to urgently address the growing insecurity. Some of the affected families, who spoke about the development, including Obiakor, Obasuji, Ohenhen, Okechi, Ogbeifun, Obasuyi, Emordi, Idemedia, Abdulahi, Ofuegbunam and Emmanuel, lamented that their communities were no longer safe.
Obiakor, Obasuji, Ohenhen and Abdulahi families expressed sadness over the June 13, 2025 attack on Yelwata in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, saying they lost family members.
Similarly, Okechi, Ogbeifun, Obasuyi and Emmanuel families equally recounted their ordeals in the August 27, 2025 attack in parts of Zamfara State. They noted that the attack led to the destruction of their homes and the loss of loved ones.

Emordi, Idemedia and Ofoegbunam also revealed that some of their relatives were kidnapped in Ekpoma in November 2025, adding that they narrowly escaped abduction.
The victims, in a statement by their leader, Mr David Ofoegbunam, yesterday, said they were deeply traumatised, displaced and in urgent need of shelter and government’s assistance. Ofoegbunam said they were stranded and expressed fear that they may not receive adequate support from the government. He said: “The scale of insecurity in Nigeria has continued to attract international attention.
“President Donald Trump of the United States had previously designated Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern (CPC) because of the level of security and religious persecution. “Despite ongoing security operations, the menace has persisted, with many Nigerians calling for stronger protection by security agencies and renewed debate over the establishment of state police to tackle localised threats more effectively.”
