The Chief of Defence Staff(CDS), General Christopher Musa, have charged commanders of the various Joint Task Force operations across the country to improve on their strategies, tactics, and capabilities to effectively counter emerging threats.
Gen Musa, have also charged the commanders to embrace new technologies, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting a learning mindset to maintain an operational edge against the adversaries.
The CDS, gave the charge at the closing of the maiden DHQ Joint Task Force Commanders Conference in Abuja. He urged them to encourage and empower personnel under them to think creatively to challenge conventional wisdom, and to embrace change as they strive for continuous improvement.
The CDS, while noting that the two day conference have been filled with engaging discussions, insightful presentations, and invaluable networking opportunities, commended the participation for their unwavering commitment, and valuable contributions during the conference, sighting One of the key takeaways to be the importance of unity of effort.
He said “As commanders, it is imperative that we foster a culture of cooperation, collaboration, and synergy among our forces. By breaking down barriers, sharing resources, and leveraging each other’s strengths, we can maximize our collective impact and achieve our shared objectives.
“Let us bring this spirit of jointness back to our respective task forces and integrate it into our daily operations.
“Similarly, the need to reform the structure of the various operations was keenly noted and will be considered.
Continuing, the CDS, said “Other challenges like the inadequate manpower, lack of support weapons, gun trucks and drones, as well as the inadequate tracking equipment and the teams to operate them has been noted. The issue of inadequate personal rifles will also be addressed.
He said “Another crucial aspect that emerged from our deliberations is the need for innovation and adaptability. The security landscape is ever-evolving, and we must continuously assess and improve our strategies, tactics, and capabilities to effectively counter emerging threats. Embracing new technologies, fostering a culture of innovation, and promoting a learning mindset are essential for maintaining our operational edge. Let us encourage and empower our personnel to think creatively, to challenge conventional wisdom, and to embrace change as we strive for continuous improvement.
“Furthermore, we must prioritize the welfare and professional development of our personnel. Our greatest asset is our human capital, and it is through their dedication, expertise, and resilience that we achieve success on the battlefield. As commanders, we have a responsibility to ensure their well-being, provide them with the necessary resources and support, and create an environment that nurtures their growth and development. Let us invest in their training, mentorship, and career progression, recognizing that their success is intricately tied to the success of our joint operations.
He said “I would also like to emphasize the importance of building and maintaining strong relationships with the communities we serve. The trust and support of the local population are critical in our efforts to counter insurgency, terrorism, and other security challenges.
“We must continue to engage with community leaders, religious leaders, and other stakeholders, listening to their concerns, addressing their grievances, and involving them in the decision-making processes. By doing so, we can gain valuable insights, foster cooperation, and build resilient communities that are actively involved in securing their own futures.
“I want to acknowledge the invaluable support we receive from our international partners. The challenges we face are not confined within our borders, and it is through strong partnerships and collaboration that we can effectively address them. I extend my deepest appreciation to our international allies for their unwavering solidarity and assistance. Let us continue to strengthen these relationships, explore opportunities for joint exercises and capacity building, and learn from the experiences of our global counterparts. I urge the leadership of the MNJTF to leverage on the support provided by international partners to enhance effectiveness of our joint operations.
“I want to reiterate my profound gratitude to each and every one of you for your dedication, professionalism, and commitment to our nation’s security. The responsibility we carry is weighty and the challenges we face are formidable, but I have full confidence in your capabilities and unwavering resolve. As we return to our respective units/theatre commands, let us carry with us the knowledge, insights, and connections we have gained during this conference. Let us implement the lessons learned and the best practices shared. Let us use the momentum generated here to drive positive change and improve the effectiveness of our joint operations.
“I urge you to maintain open lines of communication and collaboration beyond this conference. Strengthen the bonds of camaraderie and friendship that have been formed here, for it is through these connections that we can continue to learn from one another, support each other, and collectively overcome challenges.
