At least 10 people have been killed in fresh attacks on two communities in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, deepening fears over the worsening security situation in the North-Central state.
The attacks occurred between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, targeting Jol community and Dorowa Babuje in the Rob District. Nine people were reportedly killed in Dorowa Babuje, while one person lost his life in Jol during the near-simultaneous assaults.
The National President of the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYMA), Barrister Solomon Dalyop, confirmed the killings in a telephone interview. According to him, the attackers who struck Jol arrived on motorcycles from the Manga axis despite prior warnings to security agencies about suspicious movements in the area.

Dalyop said personnel of Operation Rainbow, the state’s security outfit, were already deployed and managed to repel the attackers, thereby limiting further casualties. In Dorowa Babuje, he said the assailants emerged from the Jong-Wereh area, where they were believed to have camped for some time before launching the attack.
“If not for the quick intervention of the military in Dorowa, the casualty figure would have been much higher. We must commend them for their swift response,” Dalyop said, noting that security forces acted promptly after being alerted.
Efforts to obtain an official response from the police were unsuccessful as of press time, with the spokesperson of the state command yet to issue a statement. The latest violence adds to a troubling pattern of repeated night raids and ambushes in Riyom, one of Plateau’s most volatile flashpoints, as residents call for sustained security presence to prevent further bloodshed.
