Inferno kills pregnant woman, 2 children in Anambra

A mysterious fire outbreak at Umuoffor village Okija, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, has killed a pregnant woman and her two children.

This was coming barely a week a tanker laden with kerosene lost control at Upper Iweka, Onitsha, killing many people and injuring others.

It was gathered that the victims were trapped in the inferno and burnt beyond recognition.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Haruna Mohommed, a Superintendent of Police, who confirmed the incident said the cause of the fire has not been ascertained.

“There was a fire incident at Umuoffor village in Okija, at the residence of one Maxwell Okeke. As a result, his pregnant wife, Nwazuru Okeke, two children, Chidi Ebube Okeke, aged two years, and Makuo Chukwu Okeke (male), aged one year, were trapped in the inferno and burnt beyond recognition.”

He said police detectives attached to Okija Division visited the scene and the fire was put out with the assistance of local volunteers in the area.

Mohammed, however, said the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Rabiu Ladodo, has ordered a full scale investigation to ascertain circumstances surrounding the incident.
