INEC Threatens to Bar CSOs Without Election Monitoring Reports

  • Urges Them to Monitor CVR, PVC Distribution in Edo, Ondo

From Romanus Ugwu, Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has threatened to deny accreditation to Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) that have failed to submit reports on previous elections they observed.

INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu made the announcement at a quarterly consultative meeting with CSOs in Abuja on Tuesday. He emphasised the importance of CSOs submitting reports to enable the commission to review and improve its processes.

Yakubu also urged CSOs to support the commission in mobilising new voters to register and collect their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) ahead of the upcoming Edo State election. He reminded them of the deadline for submitting applications for election observation and the importance of providing accurate information.

He further appealed to CSOs to monitor the distribution of PVCs and the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, encouraging voters to register early and collect their cards to avoid a last-minute rush.
