INEC issues Certificate of Return to Ikpeazu

The Independent National Electoral INEC, Commissioner for Abia State, Prof Okechukwu Ibeanu has enjoined those who won election in the state to see their victory as a trust from God but delivered through the people.

For that reason, he charged them not to disappoint the people rather they should make the interest of the people paramount.

He stated this at INEC Headquarters, Umuahia, while issuing certificates of return to the winners of the just concluded Governorship and State House of Assembly elections in the state.

Prof Ibeanu congratulated the people of Abia for choosing their preferred candidates and the winners for the feat they achieved.

He stressed the need for the culture of post election healing and implored those who are victorious at the elections to be magnanimous in victory and work together with all in serving the people.

Those issued certificates of return include Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, his Deputy, Rt Hon Ude Oko Chukwu, Majority leader in Abia State House of Assembly, Eng. Chinedu Orji, Hon Kelechi Onuzurike and other elected members of the Abia State House of Assembly for the 2019 elections.

The Commissioner urged the victors to treasure their mandate and write their names in gold in terms of performance and service to their people.

In his remark, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Abia State, Dr Joseph Ilo who said the event marked the climax of INEC activities and interactions with politicians till the next four years congratulated all the elected candidates as well as security operatives and stakeholders in the state for providing a peaceful atmosphere for the conduct of elections.

He appealed to those elected to address the needs of the populace.

In his speech, the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu dedicated their victory to God and thanked Abians for giving them the privilege to serve them for the next four years. He also promised to look at the issues raised by those who did not vote for him in order to give Abians the best.

He restated his commitment to serve the people of the state especially the common people and work hard to leave the state better.

He commended INEC in the state for conducting what he described as the freest election in the country and the security agencies for ensuring peace during and after the poll and disclosed that the next four years of his government will witness rapid and infrastructure in the state.
