The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deferred its proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise until post-2027 general elections.
The decision for the deferment was taken after a meeting, held by the management of the electoral umpire with the Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) on Friday, in Abuja.
INEC made the disclosure in a statement by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner, Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee.
The commission highlighted the importance of the revalidation exercise, including provision of opportunity for registered voters to confirm their details and make necessary corrections where required. But the commission has not given reasons for the postponement.
The statement read: “INEC held a meeting with the RECs today (Friday), during which, among other issues, the proposed nationwide voter revalidation exercise was considered.
