Prince Josiah Azubuike Anazodo has emerged as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate for the Amuwo-Odofin Federal Constituency of Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Anazodo emerged during a substitution primary election conducted by the Lagos State chapter of the party in Festac Town, Lagos, where he secured all 38 votes cast by delegates.
The exercise also witnessed the confirmation of Mr Okechukwu Ubaka as the consensus ADC candidate for the Amuwo-Odofin State Constituency I seat in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The results were announced by the Returning Officer and Organising Secretary of ADC in Lagos State, Mr Aderemiola Adesina, in the presence of members of the party’s state executive committee and representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The primary was adjudged peaceful, transparent and rancour-free, as delegates were allowed to cast their votes freely.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Anazodo commended the delegates for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them that he would not take their support for granted.
He pledged to work diligently towards delivering victory for the ADC in the constituency, while promising to provide quality and responsive representation if elected to the House of Representatives.
Anazodo, a political scientist and community development advocate, said his academic background, years of community service and experience in business had prepared him for the responsibilities of legislative representation.
According to him, his years of research and study have given him a deeper understanding of responsive leadership, public policy, democratic institutions, effective lawmaking and community development.
He said: “Given my years of experience as an active participant in community services, my course of study as a political scientist, as well as the experience I have garnered over the years in running successful businesses, I strongly believe that I am fully prepared to offer the much-needed quality and responsive representation at the National Assembly, if given the opportunity to serve my constituency.”
He outlined infrastructural development, education, healthcare delivery, youth development, women’s empowerment and economic opportunities as some of the areas he would prioritise if elected.
According to him, he would work closely with relevant federal agencies and other stakeholders to address challenges confronting the constituency, particularly poor roads, inadequate drainage systems and the need for improved access to potable water.
He also promised to support small-scale businesses and vulnerable residents, while creating opportunities that would enable young people and women to become economically productive.

The ADC candidate criticised what he described as the failure of some past lawmakers to adequately attract development to the constituency and improve the living conditions of their constituents.
“Many of our past lawmakers are not doing enough to attract infrastructure and basic amenities or improve the standard of living of those who voted for them. The moment they were voted into power, they turned their backs on their constituents and focused on their personal interests,” he said.
Anazodo promised to make accessibility, transparency and accountability the hallmarks of his representation, assuring constituents of an open-door policy.
He also urged voters to exercise their franchise wisely and according to their conscience, rather than allowing themselves to be influenced by temporary material inducements during elections.
He cautioned voters against being swayed by “a few cups of rice and a small amount of money” offered during election campaigns, stressing the need to elect leaders capable of providing meaningful and sustainable development.
Also speaking at the event, the Lagos State Chairman of the ADC, Engr. George Ashiru, said the primary was conducted to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, INEC guidelines and the constitution of the party.
Ashiru described the exercise as peaceful, transparent and rancour-free, noting that it was conducted in the presence of INEC representatives and members of the party’s state executive committee.
He reaffirmed the ADC’s determination to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the prevailing economic hardship, insecurity, corruption and other socio-economic challenges confronting Nigerians have created a strong desire for an alternative political platform.
“Nigerians are tired and need an incredible alternative party to believe in. They need a political party that they can look at and say, ‘Okay, this one looks like it can help us,’ and ADC has positioned itself as the party that can do so,” Ashiru said.
He explained that the ADC was building its political strategy around a coalition of voters who, according to him, were ready to support a political platform whose candidates and programmes genuinely reflected the aspirations of Nigerians.
He added that the coalition of voters and the party’s commitment to national unity and development remained the major selling points of the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections.
The development marks another step in the ADC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, as the party seeks to strengthen its structure and present candidates capable of challenging established political parties across Lagos State.
