INEC declares Buhari winner of presidential poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared President Muhammadu Buhari the winner of last weekend’s presidential election.

The INEC chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who is the chief collation officer for the poll, made the declaration at the end of the collation exercise in Abuja, on Wednesday morning.

Yakubu said President Buhari, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), polled a total of  15, 191, 847 to defeat candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) , former Vice President Atiku and 71 others.

According to him, Atiku garnered 11,262,978 to place second in the poll.
Giving details of the results, the INEC boss said out of a  total  of 82,344,107,  registered voters,  29,364 ,209 were accredited for the poll. He added that there were a total of  27,324, 583 valid votes, while  1, 289, 607 votes were voided.
