Customers of some old and new generation banks at the weekend lamented their inability to make online transactions to enjoy Nigeria’s 62nd independence Day celebration due to a major disruption in the banks’ electronic channels. The bank’s customers took to twitter and other social networking sites to express their anger and frustrations occasioned by their inability to make transactions, even as a PoS operator, Opeoluwa, said, “Some of my customers have not been able to make transactions due to network issues. I have not made a single kobo since morning and it is very annoying that this is happening on the day Nigeria turned 62”.
Daily Sun gathered that the network connectivity issues began first with one of the new generation banks before other banks joined the fray.
Similarly, bank customers in Sangotedo area in Ajah were unable to use most Automated Teller Machines (ATMs).
Although, as at the time of this report yesterday, customers of the affected banks have confirmed connectivity had improved, the situation on Saturday was quite unpleasant.
Efforts to get the banks reaction on what went wrong and what they did to address the glitch were unsuccessful yesterday evening as a message sent to it via its Twitter handle has not been responded to.
