Imo: Police arrest Catholic priest for shooting teenager

The people of Amaimo in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State are still in shock on how a teenager from the area was allegedly shot dead by Reverend father Joseph Enyinaya for  throwing a firework inside the church during service on Wednesday( Christmas day).

The cleric who is said to be the  parish priest of St Columbus Catholic church got enraged by some group of boys disturbing the ongoing church service with their fireworks and in range,allegedly shot in the air to scare them away,but his shot was said to have  hit one of them who died before help could come his way.

A source from the area has also told our correspondent that the cleric has since submitted himself to the police after the incident.

Meanwhile, Imo State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Henry Okoye  confirmed the incident but promised to give a detail account of what really transpired later. However, he said preliminary investigation has started to unravel the cause of the tragedy.

Okoye responding to the alleged shooting that led to the death of the teenager said, “Yes,a  detailed investigation has been initiated to ascertain the remote facts surrounding the incident. Further development on the case will be communicated in due course.
