Frontline governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Chief Charles Orie, has expressed sadness over the death of renowned cultural and creative icon, Paddy Obinna, describing his passing as a great loss to Imo State and Nigeria’s creative community.
In a condolence message, Orie paid tribute to Obinna’s immense contributions to the promotion of Igbo culture and the arts, recalling that the late artist participated in the World Festival of Arts and Culture (FESTAC ‘77) held in Lagos, where he showcased his artistic talent on an international stage.
The APC governorship hopeful also noted that Obinna, who owned an art gallery, designed the traditional symbol used for the prestigious Ahiajoku Lecture Series, an annual intellectual and cultural forum dedicated to the promotion of Igbo language, culture and heritage.
Orie said Obinna’s creative legacy would continue to inspire generations, noting that his works played a significant role in preserving and promoting the cultural identity of the Igbo people.
Expressing his condolences to the bereaved family, Orie prayed for divine strength to enable them to cope with the loss.
“I pray that God Almighty will grant his family the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.”
Reaffirming his commitment to the development of Imo State’s cultural and tourism sectors, Orie noted that his vision includes transforming the state into an international tourism destination capable of creating about 50,000 jobs for Imo youths.
He also extended his condolences to the people of Imo State, urging them to celebrate the enduring legacy of the late cultural icon and his invaluable contributions to the state’s artistic and cultural heritage.
