As the 2025 National Convention of the Police Officers’ Wives’ Association (POWA) at the weekend came to  close in Lagos, marking three days of strategic engagement, empowerment, and celebration of womanhood, Lagos State Governor,  Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has  commended the leadership style of the association.

Sanwo- Olu, who said POWA President, Elizabeth Egbetokun, had consistently reflected excellence and love and encouraged women to carry this spirit forward as they return to their respective states, noting that women have continued to prove their capacity in every field, often surpassing expectations.

Sanwo-Olu ,who was represented by the  Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, a lawyer, reminded attendees of  Sanwo-Olu’s deep commitment to women empowerment, citing his recognition as the first state leader in Nigeria to win the United Nations HeForShe award, an international honour celebrating male champions of gender equality.

She said the government of  Lagos, was happy  that the convention was held in the state and vowed that whenever POWA was willing to do another convention, the government would give it maximum support.

The convention came to a colourful close, marking three days of strategic engagement, empowerment, and celebration of womanhood.

The closing day was highlighted by a Talent Contest and Convention Dinner, both designed to offer a relaxing atmosphere and showcase the diverse skills and creativity among POWA members from across the 17 zones of the association.

The National President of POWA, Elizabeth Egbetokun, described the convention as a resounding success, stating that the interactions and learning moments had been inspiring and energizing. She noted that the three-day gathering not only strengthened unity among members, but  revealed remarkable, often hidden, talents among participants. She urged contestants in the talent contest to embrace the spirit of healthy competition and make the most of the opportunity to shine.

The convention climaxed with a variety of performances under the “Talent Hunt” session, where POWA members displayed creativity through speech presentations, cultural dance, singing, pageantry, catwalks, and best-dressed showcases. The dinner served as a celebratory moment to unwind after days of interactive sessions, workshops, and leadership activities.

The organizers emphasized that the event was not only about entertainment, but also a platform to reinforce shared values, foster unity, and promote personal development among police officers’ families. The participants were encouraged to replicate the lessons and energy from the Lagos convention in their states to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The 2025 POWA Convention underscored the evolving role of women in leadership, unity-building, and social transformation across police communities and Nigeria at large.
