Ilaji F.C., led by Chairman and Chief Executive of Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resort, Chief Dotun Sanusi, emerged victorious in the Oyo State FA Cup after defeating Oluyole Warriors – Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) in a thrilling match.
The match, held at the Maibowl of the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, ended in a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation time, with Ilaji F.C. ultimately winning 5-4 in the penalty shootout.
The victory was celebrated by Sanusi, who expressed his pride in the team’s performance. He commended coach Babatunde Odubola and the entire technical team, coaching crew, supporting staff, and players for their exceptional efforts. Sanusi highlighted the significance of the win, emphasizing that it marked a turning point for Ilaji F.C. in their pursuit of success.
Sanusi extended his gratitude to the match officials and the supporters of both teams, acknowledging the contributions of all stakeholders in the development of football in Ibadan, Oyo State, and Nigeria as a whole. During the match, Shooting Stars took an early lead with a goal from Pepo in the 14th minute. However, Ilaji F.C. responded with goals from Babalola Okikiola in the 30th and 32nd minutes, securing a 2-1 lead at halftime. In the second half, Taofeek Malomo equalized for Shooting Stars in the 63rd minute, only for Okikiola to complete his hat-trick in the 65th minute. Ayobami Junior then scored a stunner for Shooting Stars in the 70th minute, resulting in a 3-3 draw at the end of regulation time.
The victory in the Oyo State FA Cup means that both Ilaji F.C. and Shooting Stars will represent the state in the National Federation Cup later this year.
