Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has warned newly recruited Constables against engaging in corrupt practices stressing that anyone caught in any nefarious act would not only be dismissed from the force, but also prosecuted.
The Police boss, who gave the warning weekend during the Passing Out Parade of 32 Specialist Recruits Police constables from the Police Training School, Wanunne in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State, also urged them to be courageous and firm in the discharge of their duties.
Represented by the Commissioner of Police in charge of Benue State, CP Bashir Makama, the IGP advised the Constables to perform their duties with humility, diligence, compassion and above all, respect the fundamental rights of the citizens.
“It is pertinent to remind you that policing in a complex society such as ours is an arduous task that requires resilience and tact in the discharge of your duties. In the course of your duty, you may experience the good, the bad and the ugly but you are expected to remain resolute and calm in all situations.”
He disclosed that the recruits who are specialists in various trades such as driving, dog handling, mason, tailoring, electrical installation, welding, carpentry, computer appreciation among others would fill the existing gaps in their various fields of specialisation when they are deployed to the field.
