The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has expressed the determination of the police to apprehend those behind the Palm Sunday attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos North.

Disu, who visited Jos on Thursday to commiserate with the government and people over the incident, was received by Governor Caleb Mutfwang at Government House, Little Rayfield.

The IGP vowed to bring the perpetrators of the deadly Sunday night attack to justice.

While strongly condemning the attack, which claimed the lives of several innocent citizens, the police boss described it as tragic and unacceptable.

The IGP said he had earlier deployed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Umar Shehu Nadada, to Plateau State to assess the situation on the ground, coordinate ongoing operations and rejig existing security measures in conjunction with other security agencies.

While commiserating with Mutfwang, he said that his spirit is with the affected families and residents of the Angwan Rukuba community over the unfortunate incident.

Mutfwang expressed deep appreciation for the show of solidarity by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security chiefs, saying the gesture gives him hope that the state can overcome its long-standing security challenges.

He recalled that the security problem predated his administration, noting that former governors Chief Joshua Dariye, Jonah Jang and Simon Lalong all battled it.

“It is when you sit on this seat that you appreciate the magnitude of the problem,” he said.

The governor urged community leaders to educate their people to be extra vigilant, end complacency, and curb the misuse of social media, which fuels tension through recycled old videos and voice notes.
