Ebonyi State Police Command has arrested 20 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and cultists. Commissioner of Police, Anthonia Uche Anya, said at the Inspector General of Police [IGP] conference in Abuja.
He told the conference: “We have dealt with criminals terrorising the state. We are focussed on proactive initiatives designed to deny safe havens to criminal elements. Operatives arrested some of the suspects and they were charged to court while others are still under investigation.
“Police operatives arrested suspected armed robbers in Abakaliki and Afikpo axis. We recovered AK47 rifiles, magazine and pump action. Other suspected armed robbers and kidnappers were nabbed along Abakaliki-Enugu Expressway during operation.
“We engaged in community service, free medical outreach, to mark National Police Day. Our success reflects the dedication of our officers and men and their commitment to proactive policing, collaboration with sister security agencies in community engagement with useful information.
“This is aimed at fostering better relation between the police and the public. The theme is, Say NO to Crime, such as cultism, drug abuse , armed robbery , kidnapping , cybercrime and sexual—based violence. It is in line with the directive of IGP Olukayode Egbetokun
“I have redpolyed tactical team to flashpoints. Some of the hoodlums do come from neighbouring state to carry out the evil act. There has been 48-hour constant patrol and surveillance to make flush out the hoodlums.
“I want to give kudos to my officers for the way they conduct themselves and apply professionalism in carrying out their duties. With the sister agencies including the vigilance groups and hunters, we are able to checkmate criminals.
“We appreciate the public for given us useful pieces of information which have assisted the police to tackle the criminals.”
