Pastor Ituah Ighodalo of Trinity House Centre, Lagos, has called on the Federal Government to implement policies that would alleviate the hardship faced by Nigerians.
Speaking during the church’s carol night, he appealed to President Bola Tinubu’s administration to prioritise governance that uplifts the lives of citizens.
“I’m really begging the Federal Government of Nigeria to sacrificially enact policies that will make life better for the people.”
He sympathised with families that lost loved ones during the palliative distribution stampedes across the country, a tragedy he attributed to widespread hunger and desperation. Reflecting on his recent visits to rural areas, he noted the severe poverty and unemployment plaguing the nation.
“A lot of people are impoverished, hungry, and unemployed,” he observed. Jesus Christ said, ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ Our leaders must emulate this love and work to make life better for the people.”
He lamented the seeming lack of focus among Nigerian leaders and urged them to harness the country’s abundant resources to create jobs and improve the economy. “Nigeria has enough resources for everyone to be gainfully employed. We should focus on tapping these resources, manufacturing goods, and ensuring a better quality of life for all,” he added.

In his Christmas message, the cleric encouraged Nigerians to reflect on the life and mission of Jesus Christ, identifying four key purposes of His earthly ministry, including living a life of example, teaching God’s ways, doing good and sacrificing for humanity.
He urged Nigerians to emulate these values, especially during the Christmas season. “We must ask ourselves: How do we love our neighbours as Christ did? How do we serve God as Christ did? How do we live a useful and beneficial life in our society? And how do we ensure that life is better for our neighbours?”
Pastor Ighodalo also reminded leaders of their responsibility to care for the welfare of the people, stating that love and compassion should guide their decisions. He emphasised that governance rooted in these principles would ensure peace and prosperity for all Nigerians.
The cleric’s message serves as both a challenge to the nation’s leaders to rise to the occasion and a call to citizens to embrace the spirit of Christmas through love, sacrifice, and service to others.
The simplest way to celebrate Christmas and make it memorable is to love, because the Bible says: “For God so love the world that he gave…Christmas is about giving; giving does not have to be phenomenal. In spite of what you have, when you stop everywhere to make people’s life comfortable, just give something.”
Remembering his wife, Ighodalo gave insight on how she gave out gifts, food to beggars on Christmas days and also paid hospital bills for those who could not afford it.
“My late wife was a great example of giving at Christmas and New Year. As we were leaving church, a beggar she saw on the road must have something. And on January 1, we used to go to all the hospitals and give gifts to all the new born babies, and pay hospital bills for those who could not afford them.”
