Igbo urged to maximize benefits of town unionism

The Igbo have been urged to embrace town unionism to as safeguard against marginalisation and promote development of their communities.

National President of Association of South East Town Unions (ASETU), Chief Emeka Diwe, made the call in Umuahia, Abia State, while inaugurating the newly elected executives of Abia State chapter of the union.

He  described town union as a structure where the Igbo republican nature manifested.

 “I am making the call because it was town unions that rebuilt Igbo land after the Nigeria/Biafra war, it is the pivot of development in Igboland and nobody can dispute that.”

He thanked the Abia chapter for holding a successful election, and charged it to be the best in Igbo land in terms of community development.”
