The IG Aguowo Health and Academic Foundation (IGAHAF), a philanthropic organization that promotes health and education advancement, has awarded full scholarship to the students of Christ the King School [CKC] Onitsha, who won the 2024 World Affairs Challenge (WAC).
The competition, an international competition for secondary schools, was hosted by WorldDenver in the United States of America. The programme tasks high school students, in the areas of innovation and intellect, challenging them to develop their own innovative solutions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
In recognizing the feat by CKC Onitsha at the 2024 WAC, IG Aguowo Foundation, hailed the school and the students as presenting a positive image of the Nigerian youth before the international community. The Foundation said it is thrilled by the fact that the entry by CKC overcame other competitors from all over the world. The school’s entry had used digital comic forms to call attention to the present global problems of climate change, environmental degradation and substance abuse. CKC Onitsha had earlier emerged the regional winner of the contest in Africa, before proceeding to beat two high schools in Turkey and USA to second and third positions in the final assessment.
Ichie Ignatius Aguowo, Chairman of IGAHAF, who is also the Group President of Volic Group of Companies commended CKC Onitsha for the high standard of education and general training it imparts on its students. He said his Foundation is awarding the students who participated in the World Affairs Challenge, scholarship to university level, not only in recognition of their performance at WAC, but also to send a message to students and youth of the country, that there are organisations and individuals that are ready to support young people who are focused and also show themselves capable of bringing honour to the society in their own ways.
According to the Foundation’s initiator, although IGAHAF was established primarily to lift the less privileged and indigent in the society, the Foundation also recognises and rewards merit. He says the success of the CKC on the international arena is such that it deserves a pat on the back, hence the decision by his Foundation to award full scholarship to the students.
The eight students from CKC will join the expanding list of winners of the IGAHAF scholarship. So far, the Foundation has 352 beneficiaries of its scholarship scheme. The Foundation usually holds an annual programme where beneficiaries of its scholarships are announced, after a detailed selection. The IGAHAF scholarship scheme can be awarded for high school or tertiary education in Nigeria.
