The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) says it has tracked 21 constituency projects valued at N1.03 billion across Katsina State.
According to the ICPC, the projects, with a combined value of N1,025,573,139.96, were monitored as part of the commission’s efforts to ensure transparency, accountability and value for public funds spent on constituency projects.
The ICPC Tracking Team Lead, Dr Murtala Bankanu, who stated this in a press statement in Katsina, said the exercise covered the Katsina and Funtua zones as well as 10 federal constituencies across the state.
The statement listed the constituencies as Daura/Sandamu/Mai’adua, Baure/Zango, Mashi/Dutsinma, Batagarawa/Charanchi/Rimi, Malumfashi/Kafur, Dutsinma/Kurfi, Katsina Central, Funtua/Dandume, Faskari/Sabuwa/Kankara and Musawa/Matazu federal constituencies.
The statement further explained that the projects being tracked cut across critical sectors, including education, agriculture, electricity, water supply, healthcare and economic empowerment.
The statement said: “Under the education component, the projects included the distribution of books, school uniforms and other educational materials intended to support pupils and improve learning conditions.

“In the water sector, the commission inspected borehole projects designed to provide communities with access to potable water and reduce difficulties associated with water scarcity.
“The agricultural interventions included the distribution of bags of fertiliser and other forms of support aimed at assisting farmers and improving agricultural productivity in beneficiary communities.
“Projects in the electricity sector included the provision and installation of solar-powered facilities, while the exercise also covered interventions in healthcare and empowerment programmes.
“The tracking exercise was designed to establish whether funds allocated for the projects were utilised for their intended purposes and whether the benefiting communities received the projects.
“Where a project has been executed, officials would further assess whether the work was carried out in accordance with the approved specifications, scope and required standards.
“Contractors found to have abandoned projects, delivered substandard work or failed to comply with approved specifications would be required to return to site and rectify the identified deficiencies.”
