Arsenal’s England international, Bukayo Saka has spoken about his deep connection to his Nigerian heritage, highlighting how his family background has shaped both his identity and values.
The leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) heavily courted Saka, who represented England at youth levels from U15 to U21, before making his competitive debut for the Three Lions.
Despite growing up in England, the 24-year-old winger has never forgotten the land of his parents, both of whom were raised in Nigeria.
Before the 2022 World Cup, Saka demonstrated his generosity by teaming up with the children’s charity BigShoe to fund 120 life-changing surgeries for children in Kano, Nigeria.
The operations treated serious medical conditions, including inguinal and umbilical hernias, as well as brain tumours, giving underprivileged children a chance at a healthier life.

“Both my parents grew up in Nigeria, so many of their values have been instilled in me.”
