The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda has been assigned by the Somolu Local Government to manage the ongoing palliative program.

This collaboration aims to ensure a fair distribution of relief materials and funds to genuinely deserving residents across Somolu communities.

The Executive Chairman of Somolu Local Government, Abdul-Lateef Ashimi, recently engaged the Executive Director of HURMA Global Resource Initiative, Buna Isiak, to oversee the equitable management of the N50 million palliative fund which targets 500 low-income residents, each receiving N100,000 as direct financial support.

During a meeting between Isiak and Monsur Akinremi, HURMA’s Somolu Coordinator, it was agreed that the palliative program would be sustained as a continuous poverty alleviation effort, enabling broader community impact over time.

To enhance transparency and community engagement, a local palliative committee comprising credible community members has also been constituted to support HURMA in coordinating the exercise.

The first phase of the program took place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at the Senator Oluremi Tinubu Hall, Somolu Local Government Secretariat, where 500 residents were each presented with N100,000. The event was attended by community leaders, stakeholders, and residents, who commended the initiative for its inclusiveness and fairness.

In his remarks, Isiak appreciated the  support and commitment of Ashimi, commending their openness to collaboration for the benefit of the people.

“Our ultimate goal is the total emancipation of the oppressed masses from all forms of exploitation and deprivation. We shall continue to work with all sincere leaders and stakeholders to achieve this vision and ensure the best outcomes for our communities,” he said.
