Cross River commissioner links NDC convoy attack to mobilisation issues

Ekpenyong Cobhams

The Cross River State Government has attributed the attack on the convoy of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate to possible lapses in the political mobilisation process.

The state’s Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Ekpenyong Cobhams, said preliminary investigations by the government revealed that the mobilisation exercise was not properly handled.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, Cobhams said political mobilisation often involves financial commitments, adding that the approach adopted during the exercise might have contributed to the incident.

“Our backend investigations revealed that there was a little bit of wrong handling of the mobilisation process,” he said.

The commissioner suggested that the absence of financial incentives might have caused dissatisfaction among some individuals involved in the mobilisation exercise.

“When you mobilise, one way or the other, this business of politics involves spending money,” he said.

He further explained that some people involved in political activities might not understand the messages being communicated by political leaders.

“Because the downleg of these social miscreants do not understand what you might be preaching up there. This no shi shi of a thing doesn’t sit well with some people,” Cobhams added.

His comments come amid concerns over the attack on the NDC presidential candidate’s convoy in Cross River State.
