How UNN won Umezulike moot court competition

University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), Enugu campus, has won the 2022 Justice Innocent Umezulike Foundation National Moot Court competition. 

It was Nigeria’s first live-virtual moot court competition with three stages, contested by undergraduate law students.

Victoria Imoh Udoh and Chinedu Patrick Aneke, who represented UNN, defeated Paul Branham Chima and Kefas Terri Philip from University of Benin (UNIBEN), the first runner up.

They also won the best researchers and the best speakers in the competition, targeted to meaningfully engage law students and create platforms for healthy inter-varsity competitions.

The winners received cash prize of N350, 000, plagues, certificates of excellence and law books. The competition was also to enhance advocacy skills among upcoming lawyers in line with the foundation’s objectives to enhance excellent legal education and research.

UNN Law Faculty Dean, Prof. Ifeoma Enemuo, lecturers and others attended the first part of the award ceremony at the institution’s Law Faculty boardroom. 

The foundation’s Associate Head, Legal and Research, Ruth Soronnadi, also attended.

UNIBEN Law Faculty Dean, Prof. Violet Aigbokhaevbo, staff adviser, head of department and others, attended the second part of the award ceremony at the institution. The foundation was commended for advancing legal education and research in the country.

Foundation’s co-chairmen, Dr. Cynthia Chisom Umezulike and Dr. Victor Azubike Umezulike, said the foundation would continue to advance the legacy of Justice Umezulike, an acclaimed professor of Land and Property Law with over 25 published books. He was the longest serving chief judge in the South East.
