In a bid to revitalise the Ibadan city’s culinary and nightlife scene, the owner of Stone Cafe, Ibadan, Asiwaju Segun Olalere, has called on the state government to improve the security architecture and infrastructure to attract more investors.
During the cafe’s reopening and rebranding ceremony, Olalere stated that the state government has been trying in the area of provision of security, but could do more to address security challenges, which he believed are hindering the growth of the nightlife business.
He revealed that the nightlife business contributes over 40 per cent to the state’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), and better infrastructure could encourage more people to stay in Ibadan instead of relocating to Lagos.
“That is why businesses are being badly affected. In a situation where we are supposed to have 20 people, you now have eight people. You can see that it can be so annoying and fast becoming a big tussle,” Olalere said.
He added that to ensure the safety of its customers, the Stone Cafe has implemented its own security measures, including the presence of security personnel and a comprehensive CCTV system, saying the cafe has also undergone significant renovations, with new furniture, improved lighting, and enhanced decor to create a more luxurious and comfortable environment for its patrons.
