Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems intercepted and destroyed several drones heading toward a key oil field in the southeastern part of the country.
In a statement posted on X on Wednesday, the ministry said two drones targeting the Shaybah oil field were detected and neutralised before reaching the facility.
“Two drones heading towards the Shaybah oil field were intercepted and destroyed,” the ministry said.

The ministry added in separate updates that an additional five drones were also intercepted and destroyed, bringing the total number of neutralised drones to seven.
The Shaybah oil field, located near Saudi Arabia’s border with the United Arab Emirates, is operated by oil giant Saudi Aramco, one of the world’s largest companies by market capitalisation.
The facility is considered a critical component of the kingdom’s oil production infrastructure.
