Nigerian rapper Blaqbonez has revealed that he took his stage name from a friend who had adopted it as a rap name but was not actively pursuing music.
The rapper made the revelation while explaining why he chose the unusual name “Blaqbonez”.
“I stole it, you know, it was my friend’s name” he said.
Blaqbonez explained that his friend had come up with the name “Blaqbonez” because he liked rap, although he was not actually making music at the time.
“There was Blaqbonez and he wasn’t using it for anything, the guy, he liked rap, so he gave himself a rap name. He wasn’t even rapping, he wasn’t doing anything with the name,” he said.
According to the rapper, he later approached his friend and decided to take the name for himself.
“So, one day I just said, bro, you know, dey use this name. I like am, and that’s how I started bearing Blaqbonez. I swear,” he said.
Blaqbonez said the incident happened while he was still in school, with his friend eventually giving him the name.
He added that the friend now calls himself “BlackLutario”, although Blaqbonez joked that he was still not making use of the name.
“He’s not using it for anything. He’s not using it,” he said.
The revelation sheds light on the origin of the stage name that has since become closely associated with the Nigerian rapper.
