House Clarifies: Cyber Security Levy Not Meant for Individuals

From Ndubuisi Orji, Abuja

The House of Representatives has clarified that the recently introduced cyber security levy is not intended for individual Nigerians. The levy is meant to be paid by companies operating in the cyber space, in accordance with the Cyber Security Act.

This clarification was made during Wednesday’s plenary session following the adoption of a motion by the minority leader, Kingsley Chinda, addressing the implementation of the cyber security levy.

Chinda explained that media reports claiming the House had stopped the implementation were inaccurate. The motion passed by the House last week clarified that the levy was not meant for individuals.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, who presided over the session, affirmed that the House is not against the implementation of the cyber security levy. However, they emphasized that the implementation should adhere to the provisions of the Cyber Security Act.
